Wanda Jo Rogers, 94, of Rosser, Texas, went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2025, in Kemp, Texas.
Wanda was born on May 3, 1931, in Heart, Texas, to John Russell and Mary Lucille Hammack. As a young child, her family made the journey from West Texas to Kemp by covered wagon. She grew up in Kemp and later moved to Dallas, where she began her first job as an elevator operator at Jas K. Wilson.
Wanda worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Lonestar Liquor before joining the Jewish Community Center, where she was employed until the age of 82.
She took great pride in her yard work and flower gardening, and she was known for being a wonderful cook. Wanda especially cherished time spent with family—she loved caring for her nieces and nephews and was known as the “fun aunt.” Above all, she loved her children and grandchildren dearly.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucille Hammack; her children, John Dewayne Smith and Sharon Lucille Smith; and her siblings: Buddy, Johnnye, Pat, Hillary, Billy, Nancy, and Glenda.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters-in-law, Lou Hammack and Mildred Hammack; her children: Benny “Butch” Smith and wife Brenda, James Rogers and wife Delena, and Misty Peavy and husband Todd; her grandchildren: Samantha Smith, Brandi Ivey, Jamie Matthews, Richard Price, Beau Smith, Scout Mathis and husband Collin, Olice Rogers IV, Kinsey Little and husband Taylor, Mason Peavy and wife Stephanie, and Margie Boulware and husband Shade; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly.
