Sammie Jo Adams

Sammie Jo Adams, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in her home in Crandall, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on March 7, 1941 to parents John Goss and Maudie Crow Goss. Sammie lived her entire life of 84 years in Crandall, Texas, alongside her siblings. Her parents were older when she was born, and Sammie left school early to work at Woolworth in Big Town Mall to help support her family. Throughout her life, she often worked two jobs, providing not only for her children but also caring for her mom and dad. She worked until the age of 72, with worn-out feet and an unwavering dedication, making sure her family had a loving home.  She was married to her late husband, Kyle Adams, from 1996 until his passing in July 2022. Together, they shared a life filled with family, love, and laughter.  Sammie cherished time with her family, and nothing brought her more joy than visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nana’s baby trait that she never grew out of was saying the word “no” — sometimes with a smile, sometimes with a shake of the head — and it became part of her charm. Her grandson John Shipley, when he was young, would wait on the side of the street with his suitcase, eager to see his favorite person in the world, “Nana.” That same excitement and love for her never faded and remained until her passing. Her grandson Daniel Smith made her laugh during one of their last visits when he brought up — and sincerely apologized for — the time he and John poured sand in her car windows as kids. Some of the sweetest memories were also the simplest. Hollie and Kirbie were often paid to rub Nana and Kyle’s feet — and while their feet weren’t much to look at, Hollie always looked forward to it. Afterwards, they’d use the money to buy candy, turning it into a little tradition with Nana that they’ll always remember.True to herself, Nana didn’t suddenly become sentimental in her final days — but she still made sure the people she loved knew it. She left them with small moments of comfort, the kind that stay with you for a lifetime.Mom was sent an angel in the form of caretaker Dee Mosley. We have been so blessed to have her as a part of our family. Mom loved you so!  She is survived by her children, David Shipley & fiancé Debra and dog Alex, and Dawn Smith & husband Brooke; her grandchildren, John Shipley, Daniel Smith & wife Kasie and great grandchildren Breslin, Britton, and Brinley, Hollie Chaparro & husband Diego and great grandchildren Liam and Elijah, and Kirbie Olivo & husband Christian and their dog Max; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents John Goss and Maudie Goss, her husband Kyle Adams, and her siblings Dot Weller, Johnny Tucker, Sybil Bristow, Bytha, Tony Goss, Juanita, Marvin Shipley, Opal Langston, and Herman Shipley.

Mom said, "I love you, Don't be sad."

A celebration of Sammie’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 12th, at Crandall Cemetery in Crandall, Texas (120 Trinity Rd.) at 10:00 a.m. under the Pecan Tree. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember her with love and laughter.
