Russell Dwayne Johnson, age 79, passed away at his residence in Kaufman on Saturday, February 11, 2023.
Russell was born on September 23, 1943, in Los Angeles, California to the late Carl Albin Johnson and the late Esther Bernice Peterson. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry. Russell was a truck driver driving for Snyder Transportation and Abox Packing Company. He married his wife, Caroline Nowlin, on October 4, 2015, in Talty, Texas.
He was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. He also loved gardening, NASCAR, and college football, and working on trucks. He was a member of New Life Family Worship in Kemp.
In addition to his spouse, those left to cherish his memory are daughter, Sandra, of Kemp; sons, Russell, Jr., of Waxahachie; Thomas of Dallas; David (spouse – Connie) of Waxahachie; and daughter Denice (spouse – Douglas) of West Tawakoni. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Theresa Thompson (spouse – Virgil) of Kemp; Beverly Worrick of Kaufman; Deanna Prato (spouse – Joe) of Kaufman; Billy Sanders of Kaufman, Charlotte of Beaumont, Texas; and his sister, Charlene Clark (spouse – Tom) of California. He has 26 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins that also survive.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rodney Russell.
Friends are invited to gather at Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, February 16th at 1:00 pm at New Life Family Worship in Kemp. A private burial will take place in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Scurry.
