Nolan Lee Brooks

August 27, 1989 — August 30, 2025

Nolan Lee Brooks, 36, of Port Isabel, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2025. Though his time with us was far too short, Nolan lived each day with a smile on his face, an adventurous spirit and an inspiring energy that left a mark on those who knew him.

Born on August 27, 1989, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Nolan was the son of John and Bonnie Brooks and brother of Spence Brooks. From an early age, he exuberated curiosity and boundless energy.

Nolan earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with honors from the University of Florida, where he contributed to the university’s lightning research laboratory. After graduating, his passion and enthusiasm for space exploration led him to Texas, where he began a 13-year career with SpaceX. Most recently, he served as a Senior Data and Control Systems Engineer at Starbase, Texas.

A proud Florida Gator, Nolan’s wardrobe consisted of an extraordinary amount of his team’s trademark orange and blue. “Go Gators” was a constant part of his vocabulary. While watching college football with friends was a favorite Saturday activity, he also enjoyed exploring the world. Nolan climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, hiked in Patagonia and New Zealand, skied in the French Alps and set sail in the British Virgin Islands. He was always ready for any adventure suggested. He was a loyal friend, a rock and gem enthusiast, and, above all, he treasured being a husband and Dad.

In addition to his parents, honoring his memory are his beloved wife, Sara Shiels Brooks, who has been by his side for eight years; his young son, Barclay Brooks, who brightened his every day; and a wide circle of friends who have unforgettable memories and numerous stories that will live on for years.

A celebration of Nolan’s life was held at the Astropub in Starbase, Texas, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Nolan’s memory to the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas (https://gladysporterzoo.org). Or honor his spirit by seeking your own adventure—hike a mountain, set sail, take a ski trip, watch a lightning storm or simply look up at the stars. Nolan would have loved that.

While we will miss his presence, the impact of Nolan’s light will endure in the many lives he has touched and in all those who loved him.
