Mildred Louise McMahon, 96, of Kaufman, TX went to be with the Lord on December 5, 2025. Mildred was born on February 8, 1929, to Otto and Hattie Hester in Kennett, MO. The Hesters moved to Kilgore when Mildred was young where she met Melvin McMahon. The two were married on October 15, 1946, shortly after Melvin returned from World War II. They were married for 67 years before Melvin passed away in 2014.
Mildred worked as a technician at Texas Instruments for 20 plus years before retiring. Following that career, she and her daughter, Barbara, opened the “Flowers and More” floral shop in Dallas. In later years, Mildred and her husband ran the “Christmas Hill” bed and breakfast inn from their spacious home in Kaufman. Mildred last worked for Silver Linings, Inc., of Dallas, a moving company that specializes in helping people organize/unpack from moving. She continued some part-time work with them even during her late 80’s. Mildred was an amazingly talented woman. During her marriage, she and Melvin built 4 of the homes they lived in, with Mildred acting as the “designer and general contractor.”
She was a faithful Christian and devoted member of Kaufman First Assembly of God where she attended for approximately 24 years. Mildred was a prayer warrior and loved reading her Bible. Throughout the years, she encouraged many people with her testimonies and by giving them pages of her favorite scriptures written in her beautiful handwriting. She enjoyed gardening, decorating, and was an expert seamstress. Mildred made her daughter Janet’s wedding dress in addition to many of her own clothes. She loved entertaining her many friends with elegant dinner parties. Though she was an excellent hostess, her most precious time was spent at family gatherings. She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend.
Her parents, Otto and Hattie, husband, Melvin, brother, Kenneth Hester, son-in-law, Don Allen, grandson, David Hamby, and great-great grandchild Aaron Allen preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish Mildred’s memory are her children: Barbara Allen, Stephen McMahon and wife Sherry, Janet Shindoll and husband Ron; grandchildren: Larry Hamby, Julie Shindoll, Kathryn Shindoll, Laura Decker and husband Casey, Brandon McMahon and wife Brittaney, Zachary McMahon and wife Jaeeun, Micah McMahon and wife Nicole, Brad Allen and wife Lee, Lark Needham; great grandchildren: Shanell Reed and husband Russell, Thomas McMahon, Joseph McMahon, Dominic McMahon, Kaden McMahon, Addison McMahon, Caroline McMahon, Michael Earnest, Jr., Alexander Earnest, Mary Chola, Joseph Kaumba, Brodie Decker, Aliyah Decker, Stormie Rebish, Raven Rebish, Rider Needham, Remington Allen and wife Melody; great-great grandchildren: Preston Reed, Peyton Reed, Lainey Reed, Miracle Chola, Kathryn Kaumba, Grace Allen and Nathan Allen; siblings: Dorothy Cain and husband Bob, Sammie Keith, Betty Burden and husband Jim; along with numerous treasured nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends who greatly loved her and will miss her dearly.
