Mary Ophelia Cortez

Mary Ophelia Cortez, 75, of Kaufman, TX went to be with the Lord on August 28, 2020. Mary was born on January 14, 1945, to Manuel and Rita Soto in Sebastian, TX. She grew up in south Texas and on August 25, 1962, she married the love of her life, Ramiro Cortez, Sr., in Raymondville, TX. They just celebrated 58 wonderful years together. They moved to Seagoville in 1972 and then to Dallas in 1973. In 1987, they settled in Kaufman and has lived here ever since. There family grew and Mary would take care of all of them. She loved to cook big family meals at their gathering. Mary was a devoted member of the Landmark Church of Christ and has been a member of the Churches of Christ since she was 20 years old. Her parents preceded her in death. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Ramiro, Sr. of Kaufman, TX; sons: Ramiro Cortez, Jr. of Kaufman, TX, Oscar Cortez, Sr. of Corpus Christi and Richard Cortez and wife Susanna of Kaufman, TX; siblings: Guillermina (Mina) Baldiva and husband Efrain of Mesquite, TX, Cipriano Soto of Harlingen, TX, Andres (Chito) Soto and wife Sofia of Seagoville, TX, Gabriella Salazar and husband Jesus of Corpus Christi, Celia Hernandez and husband George of Denver City, TX, Beto Garza of Raymondville, TX and Rudy Garza and wife Estella from Dallas, TX; 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
