Marvin Hooten

Marvin Hooten, affectionately known as "Starvin' Marvin," passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on July 5, 1942, in Dallas, Texas, Marvin led a life characterized by hard work, community enrichment, and an unwavering dedication to helping others.

Marvin began his career working with his father in the sheetrock business. He then went on to work for Consolidated Copper State. In the early 1970s, he took on the entrepreneurial challenge of owning M&M's used cars in Dallas, where he operated until the shop closed in the mid-1990s, after which he relocated to Kemp. His passion for motorsports was evident when he operated Thunderbird Speedway from 1978 to 1982, earning the proud distinction of winning the championship there in 1977.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Marvin was known for his significant contributions to the community of Kemp. He possessed a special heart for the disabled and garnered a reputation as someone who encouraged and aided others. His hobbies included fishing and hunting, often engaging in these pursuits alongside his cousins. A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Marvin enjoyed sharing his passion for sports with his family and friends.

In addition to his many accomplishments, Marvin served his country with honor in the Army, further instilling in him the values of service and dedication.

Marvin is survived by his beloved wife, Mickie Hooten; his sister, Wilma Scott; and his children: Bill Hooten and his spouse Jessica, Tony Hooten and his spouse Joni, Ricky Randall and his spouse Michelle, and Judy Anthony and her spouse Dennis. He cherished his grandchildren: Dana Hooten, Nicole Tovar and her spouse Marcos, Brian Hooten and his spouse Brittany, Brett Hooten and his spouse Morgan, Maxine Hooten, Lola Hooten, and Kit Hooten. He also adored his great-grandchildren: Braylex, Brecken, Bailor, and Banks Hooten, along with Camillo and Luna Tovar.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maggie McBride; father, Jesse Hooten; and brother, David Hooten.

Marvin Hooten will be remembered for his content demeanor, warm smile, and a devoted husband to his love of 66 years, Mickie. His legacy of hard work, compassion, and community spirit will endure among all who had the privilege of knowing him
