Maria Elisa Ibarra of Kaufman, TX went to heaven on July 27, 2025. Maria was born in Palau, Coahuila, Mexico on June 10, 1932 to Juan Martinez and Luciana Arambula. She was a resident of Kaufman where she and her husband Ines Ibarra who predeceased her renewed their vows.
She loved nothing more than seeing her children and grandchildren and their families come to her house and loved cooking for them, even later in life and even after you asked not to work so hard by cooking so much. She loved cooking traditional Mexican dishes like tamales, enchiladas and so many others especially during the holidays and made many flour tortillas.
She never met a stranger, she always welcomed everyone who came to her door and always made them feel welcome.
She never knew what fear was and she always managed to communicate with anyone regardless of her semi language barrier. We think she understood and spoke more than she let on just to see what you would say to her. After she became a widow she set out to come to the United States and met her future husband who didn’t care that she already had five kids and took them under his wings as his own.
She was always very proud of the grandkids and great grandkids that proudly served and continue to serve in the military.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Alberto Torres and second husband Ines Ibarra, two sons Juan Torres and Jorge Torres and all her siblings Juan Martinez, Ramon Martinez, Heraldo Martinez, Margarita Martinez Campos, Francisco Martinez and Ignacio Martinez, granddaughters Melina Torres, Rebecca Torres and grandson Angel Robert Angel “Rocky” Martinez.
She is survived by her daughter Paulina Cruz of Garland, TX, Raul Martinez of Piedras Negras, Mexico, Hector Torres and wife Monica Torres of Kaufman, TX, Ines Ibarra, Jr. and wife, Cristina Barrera-Ibarra of Dallas, TX, Leonardo Ibarra and wife, Billie Ibarra of Pickton, TX. 23 grandkids, 43 great-grandkids and 24 great-great-grandkids. A very special sister-in-law Alicia (Licha) Flores Martinez. The family of Humberto and Nora Sandoval whom she considered her extended family in many ways and held a special place in her heart.
Special thanks to the staff at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman, Sunflower Park Nursing Home and the special staff at Always Accurate Hospice. To the staff at Doctor Heafer’s office and Your Health Team who took care of her for many years.
