She grew up in the Crandall area and helped her family on the farm. She picked Cotton and drove the truck pulling the cotton trailer to the cotton gin for her dad. She graduated from Crandall High School in 1940.
She married her husband Ira G. Sorrells on December 9, 1940 and they enjoyed nearly 62 years together until Ira’s death in 2002. Ira was a heavy equipment operator and worked for various pipeline companies and traveled and lived all over the United States in their early married years.
On November 27, 1941 they were blessed with a son, Larry Edward Sorrells. Larry was diagnosed with a fatal disease and passed away on April 25, 1944 at 2 ½ years of age. During the time Larry was sick and in the hospital Margie was expecting and on November 13, 1943 an infant daughter was still born.

Margie was a caretaker. She always made sure there were fresh seasonal flowers at the Cemetery for all her loved ones. She was a homemaker and kept the books for various businesses they owned & operated. After surviving cancer, she went to work for an insurance company in Dallas to help pay off medical bills. She worked for several companies over her career and retired from Safeco Insurance Company in 1982. with 18 years of service.
She LOVED her family. She especially enjoyed extended large family get togethers for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and any other opportunity to get family together. She was known for her turkey & dressing, fruit salad, chicken & dumplings and many other delicious meals. (Hardly ever used a recipe).
Ira was a fisherman and they always had fresh fish to fry and loved to have family and guests for fish fries and all the side dishes including homemade hushpuppies.
Margie was a member of Central Baptist Church from her childhood till death. She was saved and baptized when she was 12 years old. She was a faithful member and served in many rolls over the years. She taught in bible school and taught various Sunday School classes, from Jr. High to the older ladies class. She dearly loved her class of senior ladies and taught until she was unable to attend due to health. She would study all week preparing for her lesson on Sunday. At 101 she was the oldest member of Central Baptist Church. She worshiped under and supported approximately 28 pastors.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzy Colquitt, husband Don and two cherished grandsons Jeff Colquitt of Canton, Texas and Brent Colquitt of Los Angeles, California and many borrowed bonus grandkids, who coined her “Granny Margie”.
