Joe Welton Heather

Joe Welton Heather, 90, of Kaufman, TX went to be with the Lord on August 22, 2026. Joe was born on August 4, 1936, to Joe Sherman and Lila Vera Heather in Kemp, TX. He grew up in Kemp, graduating from Kemp High School in 1955. Joe enlisted in the Army in 1958, and joined the First Calvary division in Seoul, Korea for 18 months. He would end his time in the service in 1960. Joe married Georgie Melton Heather on July 10, 1959, in Kemp, TX, and they have spent a loving 67 years together. After his service, he was employed by Sears as an order filler and stockman, he would work there for 38 years before his retirement in 1994. Joe was known for the big garden on the corner of house on Highland Drive. He and Georgie proudly shared the fruits of their labor with the neighborhood. He also took care of his 256 acres along with his son Robert and raised cattle. He knew how to make a brush pile and would get the whole family involved.

He served on the Oak Grove Water Board for 40 years. Joe's most precious time was spent with his family. When the cool weather moved in, he would light his Buck stove. You didn't come to their house dressed for winter because Joe kept the stove, better known as Mojabi on full blast. Joe also loved watching baseball. He would travel hundreds of miles through several states to watch his grandson Matthew play on his travel teams or would sit in his chair at home and cheer on the Texas Rangers. Joe was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother. His parents, Joe and Lila, and brother Sherman and his wife Geraldine preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Georgie, daughter Mary Jo Walters and husband Robert, Son Robert Heather, grandchildren: Joshua and Matthew Walters and Matthew's fiancé Karissa Breckel, sister Elizabeth Booker and husband Jerry, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
