James Anson Storms, Jr.

James Anson “Jimmy” Storms Jr., born August 29, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, passed away on February 27, 2026, after a long and brave battle with cancer.

Although born in Dallas, Jimmy always said he was from Amarillo, Texas where he moved as a young child. It was the place that helped shape his grit, work ethic, and love for wide-open spaces. It was in Amarillo that he discovered his love for bull riding and team roping, passions that became part of who he was and remained with him throughout his life. He was the oldest of five children, growing up alongside two sisters and two brothers. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work while working long hours with his dad in the golf cart business.

After high school, Jimmy attended West Texas State University where he was on the soccer and rodeo teams before transferring to Tarleton State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Ag Business. The rodeo community meant so much to him and he made many lifelong friendships.

Jimmy went on to build and own a successful underground utility company specializing in commercial fire sprinkler water lines and leak repair. Growing and sustaining his business was one of his proudest accomplishments. He worked tirelessly to provide for and take care of both his family and his employees, carrying that responsibility with unwavering strength, determination, and deep loyalty.

In 2017, Jimmy met Kelly, and it was clear that God had brought them together in His perfect timing. Their marriage was rooted in faith, love and friendship. On June 12, 2021, they were married in Key West FL, and they spent everyday since then grateful for the life God had written for them.

He was a devoted husband and provider. As a father, he held high expectations and could be tough, but his advice was steady, wise, and almost always right. He was fiercely loyal — the kind of friend who showed up and stood firm.

An extrovert at heart, Jimmy was outgoing, talkative, loud, and opinionated. He never met a stranger and was never short on conversation. He was fun-loving, with a kind heart and a big smile that made people feel welcome. He loved Mexican food, the Cowboy Channel, and the Hunting Channel. His favorite place to be was his hunting ranch in west Texas, working the land and enjoying the outdoors. Each December, he looked forward to traveling to Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo

Above all, Jimmy’s life was anchored in faith. Through long hours, hard seasons, and ultimately his battle with cancer, he remained steadfast in his trust in the Lord.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Kelly, daughters, Kayleigh Stark and her husband Jacob, and Ryleigh Rorie; his mother, Ruth Anne Tripplehorn; his sister Kristin Penn and husband Kenny; his brother Tim Storms and wife Ashley; his sister Ansley Mathis; his brother Stewart Storms and wife Amy; and his seven nieces and nephews: Nicholas, Katie, and Abbie Penn; Ava and Cate Storms; and Kelsen and Harper Storms.

He is preceded in death by his father James Anson “Jimmy” Storms Sr.

He will be remembered for his bold personality, his big smile, his kindness, unwavering loyalty, strong work ethic, and deep faith. Most of all, he will be missed for his friendship and the steady advice he so freely gave.
