Gilbert Nelson Kersey, 61, of Kemp, TX passed away on November 16, 2021 in Kemp. Gilbert was born on April 4, 1960 to Dal and Joann Kersey in Dallas, TX. He grew up in Irving and went to school at Irving MacArthur High School. Gilbert earned an associate's degree at Northlake Community College. Gilbert married Kim Kersey on August 5, 1989 and they have spent a loving 32 years together. He worked for Yellow Freight as a truck driver and he retired in 2020. Gilbert was a man faith; he spent time reading his Bible, he was active in prison ministry, served as chaplain for the Kaufman County Jail and a member of the Round Pen Cowboy Church for the past 6 years. He enjoyed spending time outside, fishing, riding his Harley and building parade floats. His most precious time was spent with his grandkids and he loved his dog "Jake". Gilbert was a soft spoken but wise man whose words carried great weight. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Kim, daughters: Katrina Maggard and fiance John Pittman, Jr. and Rebecca Alexander Lopez; grandchildren: Shayla Maggard, Troy Lopez, Keira Maggard and Isaiah Lopez; sister Vicki Powell and husband Brent; numerous extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
