Geroge Michael Lathan

Mickey Lathan (George M. Lathan) passed away peacefully at home, by his wife’s side at the age of eighty-six (86). Mickey was born to James and Myrtle (Sheen) Lathan in Harrisville, New York on September 19, 1939. He grew up in Watertown, New York.

Mickey began his military career in the U. S. Army, followed by service in the US Army Reserves. He then joined the United States Air Force (his love). He was stationed overseas in Guam and Vietnam. He met his wife, Phyllis Garretson, while stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. Mickey and Phyllis just celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on September 25, 2025.

Following the military, Mickey began his career in auto sales management, first at Lathan’s Dodge in Watertown, New York, then to Barber Ford in Ventura, California from 1975 – 1991. He and Phyllis then moved to Kaufman, Texas, where he specialized in selling land. His favorite hobby was his love for airplanes, having an incredibly special flight simulator at home.

Mickey is survived by his wife of sixty years, Phyllis Garretson Lathan; sons James Lathan (spouse – Madelyn) of Ventura, California, and Timothy Lathan (spouse- Julia) of Livermore, Colorado; two granddaughters Sadie Catherine Lathan and Heidi Alexandra Lathan. He is also survived by his sister, Majorie Campany (spouse – Pat) and his brother James Lathan (spouse – Bette).

Mickey was preceded in death by his parents James and Myrtle (Sheen) Lathan; his brothers Bernard and Jerome; and his sister Diane.
