Emma Lou Couch

March 27, 1925 — September 17, 2019

Emma Lou Couch passed away very early Tuesday morning, September 17, 2019 at the age of 94. She was born in Kaufman County to Farris Lyman Copeland and Myrtle Louella Oxford on March 27, 1925. In the 1930s, the Copeland family moved to Ola after purchasing a small country grocery store. Emma Lou enjoyed growing up surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins in the Ola and Rand communities. She graduated from Kaufman High School in 1942 and married her high school sweetheart, Howell Lee Couch, on December 17, 1943.

In 1957, Emma Lou, along with Howell Lee, was baptized into Christ. She enjoyed worshipping with the Ola Church of Christ until her health no longer permitted.

She and Howell Lee built a new home in the Ola community, moved in during October of 1959 and there they remained. Emma Lou was a homemaker extraordinaire; she loved everything about making a house into a home. She especially enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and for others—a visit to her home always included a cup of coffee and something delicious to share while chatting.

Emma Lou dearly loved her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, LuJan and Chip Langston; her only granddaughter Emmalee Suzanne Langston; one nephew, Jimmy (June) Copeland; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Walker; her brother-in-law, Ed Moore; lifelong dear friends, Guinn and Jack Godwin and Oleta Worley. Also surviving her are several much loved nieces and nephews from the “Couch” side of the family: Lynn Howell, Gloria Whitaker, Susan Burleson, Annette Yudizky, Joni Walker, Sharon Robertson, Melanie Miller, Jill Morgan, June Copeland, James Rand and Ron Hunsaker.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howell Lee Couch; her only brother, Jim Ripley Copeland and his wife, Ruth; her nieces, Patricia Copeland Patton and Wanda Jean Copeland Patton; and five dearly loved sisters-in-law: Dorothy Wanda Hunsaker, Willie Mae Neaves, Neta Massey, Billie Jane Rand, and Joy Couch Moore. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association at PO Box 841125 Dallas, TX 75284
