Edith Corder Bishop, a cherished seamstress, quilter, and devoted homemaker, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, in Kaufman, Texas at the age of 91. Born on May 19, 1934, in the community of Cottonwood, Texas. Edith's life was a tapestry woven with love, craft, and adventure.
A kind and welcoming soul, Edith had a remarkable ability to put others at ease. Her warmth extended to her family, as she poured her love into her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. Each generation carried a piece of her spirit, forever tethered by the joyful memories they shared.
Edith took great pride in her passions. She found joy in the simple act of mowing her yard, nurturing her outdoor space just as she nurtured her relationships. She delighted in watching General Hospital, often discussing the latest plot twists with friends and family. Traveling was also a cherished pastime; Edith explored 48 of the 50 states, each journey enriching her life and providing stories that she would pass on for years to come. Her adventurous spirit shone brightly when it came to her passion for deep-sea fishing, an activity that brought her much joy and excitement.
She leaves behind her beloved daughters, Linda McDougald and her husband Bo, Kathy Payne and her husband Richard, son, Rickey Bishop and his wife Mechelle, and daughter, Loretta West and her husband Hazy. Edith was also a proud grandmother to Paula McDougald, Misty Climer, Kevin McDougald, Jack Bishop, Casey Harp, Brady Bishop, Tracy Carrillo, and Renee Yates, as well as Lance West. Her legacy continues through her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who will remember her stories, her laughter, and her unwavering love.
Edith is survived by her brothers, Alvin Corder and his wife Judy, Robert Corder and his wife Phyllis; and her sisters, Gladys Milam and Sharon Welch and her husband Ricky.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, John D. Corder and Mamie Saulters Corder; her devoted husband, Elmer "Jack" Bishop; and her brother, James Corder, and her brother-in-law Melvin Milam, each of them, a guiding light in her life, will welcome her with open arms as she joins them in the eternal embrace of love.
Her steadfast presence will be profoundly missed, but the impact she made on those fortunate enough to know her will remain a beautiful chapter in their hearts forever. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her remarkable life during the visitation on June 23, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Parker - Ashworth Funeral Home in Kaufman, Texas.
