Danny Ray Wampler, 82, of Scurry, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on December 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Danny was born on January 26, 1941, in Terrell, Texas to Charley and Dorothy Wampler. Danny was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His life was a testament to humility, gratitude, and respect for all of God’s creation, and he leaves a lasting positive impact on the lives he touched.
Danny is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Fay and father Charley Saxon Wampler, and stepmother Leta Fern Wampler. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Callie Noble Wampler, children Molly Theresa and husband Brad Johansen, Dianna Lynne and husband Randy Burgess, Robert Wayne and wife Lisa Wampler, Charles E. and wife Rachel Wampler, Joseph Marcus Wampler, cherished grandchildren Cassie and husband Arthur Henderson, Brandon and wife Jennifer Duncan, Bobby and wife Jennifer Duncan, Nolan and wife Haley Duncan, Suzanne and husband Ren Volpi, Danielle Burgess, Christopher Burgess, Jake and wife Katie Wampler, Stacey and husband Dalton Smith, Sara Wampler, and Emily Wampler, and 17 great-grandchildren. Danny is also survived by his brother, Jerry Pat and wife Carolyn Wampler, and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends, all of whom are forever touched by his presence.
Danny's faith and obedience in Christ was a cornerstone of his life of service, and the Lord guided him in all facets of his life. He was a faithful member of the Landmark Church of Christ, where he worshipped and served the Lord with his fellow Christians. Danny cultivated a deep reverence for all of creation and an unwavering commitment to living a life of love and compassion.
Danny graduated from Scurry-Rosser High School in 1959 and the Dallas Fire Academy in 1960. In his earthly journey, Danny dedicated himself to serving the community as a firefighter, becoming a beacon of strength and compassion in times of distress. He retired as a Captain of the Dallas Fire Department in 1990. Danny’s selflessness and desire to help and protect others exemplified the true essence of service.
Outside of his noble profession, Danny found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends. He loved history and enjoyed sharing his experiences and knowledge with others. He was a licensed private pilot and he delighted in the art of flying both actual and radio-controlled airplanes, finding serenity in the skies above. He loved solving word and number puzzles to challenge his mind and hone his focus and determination.
Danny Ray Wampler's legacy of humility, gratitude, and respect for all of God’s creation will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. As we bid our earthly farewell, let us remember his unwavering devotion and the profound impact he had on our lives. While Danny will be missed by all of us, we take comfort in the knowledge that he is waiting for us in the arms of our Lord.
The Wampler family invites friends and loved ones to join them in bidding farewell to Danny. Visitation will be held at of Parker Ashworth in Kaufman, Texas, on Thursday, January 4, 2023, from 6-8 PM. A solemn celebration of Danny's life will take place at the Landmark Church of Christ in Kaufman on Friday, January 5, 2023, at 10 AM.
