Bobby Jack Talbot, 78, of Scurry, Texas, passed away surrounded by family. Born on October 15, 1946, in Kaufman, Texas, Bobby was the son of the late Walter “Buck” Harris Talbot and Dora Isabel Boles Talbot.
Bobby graduated from Kaufman High School and continued his education at East Texas State University in Commerce, where he earned his degree and began his career as a high school science teacher in Ennis, Texas. Shortly after, he followed his calling to serve and protect, joining the Dallas Fire Department. Bobby proudly served for 32 years, spending most of his career at Station 34 before retiring in 2004.
On October 27, 1973, Bobby married the love of his life, Jo Ann Talbot (de Vlaming), at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kaufman, Texas. Together, they built a life rooted in family, faith, and the values of hard work.
After retirement, Bobby returned to his roots, finding joy in ranching, farming, and spending countless hours watching the Cowboy Channel with all the Pro rodeos and also yelling at the Dallas Cowboys games. More than anything, he loved supporting his grandchildren—Dylan Smith and Colten Smith—attending their sporting events and youth rodeos. His passion for rodeo extended beyond his family, as he gave generously of his time serving on the Texas High School Rodeo Association Board, Region IV, and the Lone Star High School Rodeo board, where he helped guide and support countless young athletes.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jo Ann Talbot; his children, Kelly Talbot and Shelly Smith (husband Cebo Smith), and his grandchildren, Dylan Smith (wife Bailey) and Colten Smith, all of Scurry, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter “Buck” Talbot and Dora Isabel Talbot.
Bobby will be remembered for his deep devotion to his family, his steadfast work ethic, his love of the cowboy way of life, the lasting impact he made on the youth rodeo community and also his willingness to always go out of his way to help a friend or stranger.
