Billy D. England, Sr.

Billy D. England Sr., affectionately known as Poppy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away on September 19, 2026, in Kaufman, Texas, at the age of 81.

Born on February 1, 1945, in Gainesville, Texas, to Billie Joe England and Bertie England. He lived a life marked by strength, loyalty, hard work, faith, and, above all, love for his family.

Billy proudly served his country as a United States Marine. He later spent many years working for DART, where his dedication and work ethic were a reflection of the man he was in every part of his life.

Billy was a believer in Jesus Christ, and his faith was an important part of who he was. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now in the presence of his Savior and reunited with the love of his life, Brenda England, who preceded him in death.

He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, but nothing compared to the pride and joy he found in his family. He was a devoted husband to Brenda, and together they built a family and a legacy that will continue for generations.

He is survived by his three children: Tiffany Starek and her husband, Greg Starek; Billy England Jr. and his wife, April England; and Matthew England and his wife, Caylie England. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Hannah Kidd, Zack Starek, Madison House, Harrison England, Beau England, Charlie England, and Scottie England; and his five great-grandchildren, Keller Kidd, Berkley Kidd, Dean Starek, Hadley House, and Demi Starek.

To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was simply Poppy—a name that carried a lifetime of love, memories, stories, and traditions. He was proud of every one of them, and they will carry his love with them for the rest of their lives.

Even until the very end, Billy's mind remained remarkably sharp and clear. He never lost his ability to remember the people he loved, the stories he had lived, or the details that mattered. That was just one of the many things his family will always treasure about him.

Billy's greatest legacy will not be measured by the places he worked, the fish he caught, or the days he spent in the stand. It will be found in the family he loved so fiercely, the faith he held close, the memories he created, and the generations who will grow up knowing his name and hearing stories about the man they were so blessed to call Poppy.

Though he is no longer here, the love he gave his family will remain—passed down from his children, to his grandchildren, and to his great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Kaufman ISD Education Foundation. A grant will be established in his honor creating a lasting legacy of support for Kaufman ISD students and educators. Donations may be mailed or delivered to:
