Betty Joan Mayo of Combine, Texas passed away on Friday March 25, 2022 at the age of 87. She was born on December 29, 1934 in Corsicana, Texas to George and Bess Landon. In her youth, she was a dancer and avid reader.
In September of 1953, Betty married Bobby Mayo, the love of her life. Over the next 30 years her focus was on taking care of her husband and raising and civilizing her five children to become responsible and thoughtful adults. She loved to use storytelling about events in her life to pass on life lessons to her children and grandchildren. It was important to Bobby and Betty that their children were taught about Jesus and raised in a Christian home.
Throughout her life, Betty loved to work in her garden growing many different types of flowers with roses being one of her favorites. When her children were young, she made and sold ceramic pieces. When her children were grown, she became a collector of antique dolls and owned an antique business.
Her favorite time of year was the Christmas season. She always took care to make it special for her family and her home was filled with Christmas decorations. Betty also loved celebrating Easter with her children and their families. One of her favorite things was to make a pinata filled with candy and treats. Each of the grandchildren starting with the youngest would take a swing at the pinata. Usually, one of the older grandkids would break the pinata much to the delight of everyone there. Taking care of her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and her husband Bobby was a high priority.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, George and Bess Landon, son-in-law Tim Skidmore, and grandchildren Hope Decker and Luke Bednar.
Betty is survived by: her husband of 68 years, Bobby Ben Mayo, and her five children and their spouses, Merribess Skidmore, Steve Mayo, Mindy and Max Pierson, Roxanne and Mark Neiman, Ben Mayo, and her eleven grandchildren and their spouses – Jacque and Chad Decker, Morgan Skidmore and Nathan Kaplan, Mike and Stephanie Fancher, Maeve Skidmore and Mark Beaty, Jake Bednar, Clayton Skidmore and Lynn Hunter, Lindy and Cody Seabolt, Samuel Skidmore, Zach and Krystal Mayo, Cayce and Brian Youngblood, Kristy Neiman and Dylan Kilgore, and her twelve great-grandchildren – Taylor Seabolt, Kelee Bednar, Aubrey Mayo, Ollie Kaplan, Silas Decker, Ty Fancher, Samantha Mayo, Miles Kaplan, Carter Fancher, Anna Decker, Kathy Mayo and Isaac Kaplan.
