EDNA JEWELL MAKERNEY Edna Jewell Makerney of Kaufman passed away in a Kaufman hospital on June 20, 2015. Edna was born in Belton, Texas on June 4, 1921 to Aubrey Crestal Smith and Vera Sadie Tanner. She was a west Texas native who had lived in Texas and Oklahoma most of her life. She worked full time and commuting eighty miles to class while taking care of her family, she earned a bachelor's degree and a master of library science degree at East Texas State University. She was a librarian at Seminole Junior High School at Seminole in west Texas. Edna enjoyed needlework of all kinds, watching football and fishing. A particular delight was her grandchildren. Edna also wrote a book "Cissy's Texas Pride". She lived in Athens from 1946 till 1990 and later moved to Kaufman in 2013. She married Buck Wayne Makerney and he preceded her in death and a son Aubrey Wayne Makerney also preceded her in death. Edna is survived by her daughter: Mary Haynes of Kaufman, sister: Opal Jackson of Athens, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives.
