Joseph Carrol Hill

November 12, 1945 — September 23, 2015

Joe C. Hill, 69, of Scurry, Texas was born in Honey Grove, TX to Ernest Clayton and Ola Mae Hill on November 12, 1945. He left this earth for eternal happiness September 23, 2015. Joe graduated High School from Honey Grove, Texas and attended Paris Junior College. Joe married Wilma Wilson in 1967, where they resided in Dallas and then later made a home in Honey Grove, having two children, Tonia and Jeff. He later married Marsha F. Hill in Rosser, Texas and became a step-father to Adam and Bryan, where they settled on their beautiful ranch in Scurry, Texas. In 1980 he gave up his passion of being a cowboy full time and went to work as a Nursing Assistant at the Sam Rayburn Veterans Administration, Bonham, Texas, moving on to Muskogee, Oklahoma VA and eventually retiring from the North Texas VA Hospital in Dallas, Texas in September 2009. He loved taking care of people and quickly mastered skills that enhanced his ability to do so in the ICU and Emergency Room settings. He was fondly known as Sweetheart, Daddy, Dad, Pop, Jabo, Son and Brother, by his family. Joe's love for life could easily be heard in his laugh and seen through his many stories, which most always ended with "a long headed horse" and a bad outcome. Joe's memories included childhood friends, uncles, aunts and cousins which provided a joyful past that he routinely reflected on with others. Joe always had a quick wit and a cowboy charm. If he wasn't telling stories, he was watching westerns, giving advice, singing George Jones or bargaining for a good deal. He took pride in knowing his kids could "ride the hair" off any horse he brought home, so he could turn a "dollar". And he always looked forward to winning the annual 42 tournament at the Holmes reunion. He is survived by his wife Marsha F. Hill in Scurry, Texas, his daughter LaTonia (Hill) Arris and son-in-law Randy of Bonham, Texas; his son Jeffery Hill and daughter-in-law Kristy of Petty, Texas; his step-son Adam Shapiro and daughter-in-law Amber of Scurry, Texas; his grandchildren Clay Hill, Randy Arris, Jr., Casen Hill, Joseph Caleb Arris, Carson Arris, Colby Shapiro and Landry Shapiro, his sister Linda (Hill) Goss, his nephew Ty Fulmer and wife Rita, and nephews Hayden Fulmer, Mark Fulmer and niece Hannah Fulmer, as well as many other family members. He was preceded in death by his step-son Bryan Shapiro, his father Ernest Hill, and his mother Ola Mae Hill. Visitation will be Saturday, September 26, 2015, 6:00-8:00pm at Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home, 2217 South Washington Street, Kaufman, TX 75142. The funeral will be Sunday, September 27, 2015 3pm. Joe would like to be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, family member and friend. He would like everyone to rejoice as he is now riding those bronc's in the sky. "With my feet in the stirrups, my bridle in my hand; Good-bye, Old Paint, I'm a-leavin' Cheyenne." Slobber and spurDaddy.
