Virginia W. Ayres

VIRGINIA AYRES

Virginia Watt Ayres was born in Hedley, Texas on June 28, 1922 to Fred Guy Watt and Byrda Ruth Akers Watt. She passed away at Avante Rehabilitation Center, Irving, TX on January 16, 2016.  Virginia was raised in Hedley and graduated from school there in 1939.  She attended Clarendon Junior College and West Texas State Teacher’s College, and then taught school in the Giles community, Mobeetie, and in Hedley.  After World War II she married Edwin E. Ayres and moved to Kaufman, Texas.  Virginia was active as a homemaker and mother, involved with schools as a room mother, and was the clothing/sewing teacher for the local 4-H Club.  She was a wonderful cook and always provided food for church activities and community needs.  Virginia was well known for her sewing, crocheting, and quilting, and for the many special wedding and shower gifts made by hand.  She worked for several years as the organizer and manager of the Benevolent Center of the Kaufman Church of Christ.  Virginia and Edwin spent many years of service and ministry driving the church van for transporting elderly members.  She was active with the Kaufman Senior Citizens Center, serving as president for a number of years. She is survived by a daughter: Kay Naff and her husband Allen of Bertram, Texas; son: Michael Ayres and his wife Lisa of Irving, Texas; grandchildren: Ginger Floyd and her husband Jerrod, Todd Naff and his wife Tessa, David Ayres and his wife Kristen, and Paul Ayres and his wife Bailey; great-grandchildren: Kallen, Addison, and Logan Floyd, and Ava Kate and Jacob Michael Ayres; and many other relatives and friends.
