Danna Kay Turner was born December 29, 1948 in Fort Worth, Texas to Nola Henley Turner and Thomas H. Turner. She grew up in Arlington, Texas and went through the Arlington public school system graduating from Arlington High School with the class of 1967. She was a good student and dearly loved several of her teachers. She enjoyed singing and had a beautiful voice. Danna could play the piano and taught herself to play the guitar as well! During her senior year in high school she participated in a business vocational training program through which she acquired part time employment at Baker’s Pharmacy. Upon graduation, she continued working for Baker’s.
Everyone loved Danna and she seemed to love everyone else too. She claimed that she was raised in a traditional southern environment in which she was taught good manners, patience and a certain grace. She certainly had them anyway.
She was a beautiful young lady with an exceptionally fair complexion and lovely flowing red hair that seemed to change from auburn to strawberry blond as the sunlight played upon it.
While working at Barker’s she met Kenneth Douglas Middleton and the world changed for both of them. They were married in Payson Arizona July the fifth 1969. Danna had her first child, Amy Margaret in 1970. After completion of active duty they returned to Arlington where she worked part time while Doug attended graduate school.
Danna had her second child in 1977, Andrew Douglas. Her “little baby boy” even when he was 6’2” tall.
Danna was very active in the Parent Teachers Association at Amos and then, especially, Morton elementary schools. She made several lifelong friends while in the PTA. She actually served in the PTA after her children had moved up to middle schools!
Danna had been active in Girl Scouts and Brownies as a girl. She carried that tradition over into Bluebirds for the girls and The Boy Scouts of America for the boys. She was active in several dens, packs, troops and posts. She served on committees and her real love was merit badge counseling, especially Indian Lore!
The boys and later young men loved her and often they would seek her council on many of life’s issues. Many of those young men and their families were part of Danna’s life to the end.
Danna joined the Arlington Sportsmans Club and took up the sport of skeet shooting. She worked hard at it, enjoyed it and became an excellent shot and competitor. The old men of the club loved her and didn’t seem to mind when she outshot them! She was elected to and served in several positions in the club. She was elected “Sportsman of the Year” and was honored with a lifetime membership.
Danna was also an artisan and “crafter”. She was especially good with silk and artificial flower arrangements, wreaths and mums. She could knit and crochet until arthritis slowed that down.
Always having been religious, Danna joined the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints in 1999 after losing both of her parents. She said she answered the door and the Missionaries came in in a flood of light! It wasn’t long after that the rest of the family followed her path.
Danna died of complications of aspirin toxicity on Wednesday the 21st of February 2018. She did not suffer. Her wishes are being fulfilled. She is survived by her loving husband Douglas Middleton and son Andrew Middleton , sister-in-law Joan Gay Turner and nephews and grand nephews and nieces, and brother-in-law Mark Middleton’s family. So many people loved her. She will be missed forever.
